Why professional garden maintenance pays off
Regular, expert care is cheaper than putting things right later. If lawns, hedges and beds are cut, fed and loosened at the right time of year, the garden stays healthy for the long term – and you save yourself expensive replanting. We work with professional machinery, know the correct cutting times for each plant and keep to the legal rules, for example the ban on radical hedge cutting between 1 March and 30 September under the Federal Nature Conservation Act (Bundesnaturschutzgesetz, § 39 BNatSchG).
As landscapers and gardeners (Garten- und Landschaftsbau) we also think beyond the upkeep itself: if we notice waterlogging, a diseased tree or a broken joint in your paving, we tell you about it – before it turns into a much bigger repair.
Garden maintenance in the Bergisches Land and along the Rhine
Our region is remarkably varied from a gardener's point of view. In Wuppertal, Schwelm and Ennepetal, sloping plots, heavy clay soils and high rainfall shape the work – here it is usually about moss in the lawn, waterlogging and fast-growing hedges. In Düsseldorf, Meerbusch and Cologne we more often find the sandier soils of the Rhine plain, larger areas of lawn and, in dry summers, a real need for watering.
We know these differences from everyday work and set the feeding, the cutting rhythm and the watering accordingly. Short journeys from the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis via the A1, A46 and A43 mean we can cover short-notice appointments well too.

Claiming garden maintenance against your tax
Good news for private clients: garden maintenance counts as a household-related service (haushaltsnahe Dienstleistung). Under the German Income Tax Act (§ 35a EStG) you can deduct 20 % of the labour costs – up to €4,000 per year – directly from the tax you owe. The conditions are an invoice that shows the labour costs separately and payment by bank transfer rather than in cash; you get both from us as standard.

What does garden maintenance cost?
The cost depends on the size and condition of your garden and on how often it is maintained. As a rough guide, here are typical figures for our region (incl. VAT):

Do you also offer one-off garden maintenance, for example before a sale or a move?
Yes. Alongside maintenance contracts we are glad to take on one-off jobs – a thorough tidy-up before handing over a property, after a long spell away or before a party. You receive a fixed-price quote for it after a free on-site visit.
When is it legal to cut a hedge in Germany?
Light shaping and maintenance cuts are permitted all year round. A hard cutback or the removal of hedges is prohibited from 1 March to 30 September under the Federal Nature Conservation Act (Bundesnaturschutzgesetz, § 39 BNatSchG), to protect nesting birds. We therefore plan the heavy cutting for October to February.
Do you take the green waste away?
Yes, the proper disposal of grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings and shrub prunings is part of the job with us. You do not need to order a skip or buy a green waste card (Grüngutkarte) from the council.
How quickly can you offer an appointment?
We normally get back to you within 24 hours and can usually start within one to two weeks in our core area – the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, Wuppertal, Düsseldorf, Meerbusch and Cologne. In the peak season from April to June it is well worth enquiring early.
Can I claim garden maintenance on my tax return?
Yes, as a household-related service (haushaltsnahe Dienstleistung) under § 35a EStG: 20 % of the labour costs, up to a maximum of €4,000 per year, are deducted directly from your income tax. We show the labour costs separately on the invoice.
